What would St. Patrick's Day be without a wee bit of Irish music? On 9News 5 a.m. we featured Celtic Woman, an Irish Music group making its American debut...

With a new CD and concert DVD Celtic Woman weaves folk and classical traditions with popular influences to create an original sound that is getting a lot of notice.

Celtic Woman is the brainchild of Sharon Browne, Managing Director for Celtic Collections, one of Ireland's most successful record labels. She teamed with Irish record producer Dave Kavanaugh, and Riverdance musical director David Downes to assemble this group of talented musicians.

Four of Ireland's top young vocalists and 15-year-old violin prodigy Máiréad Nesbitt form the group's lineup.

Celtic Woman's stage performance, which will tour North America this summer (no Denver date yet), is expected to rival the popularity of Riverdance.

The show offers renditions of Irish standards, and solos highlighting the unique gifts of each of the group's vocalists. One popular highlight of the show features a "playoff" between violinist Nesbit against a fast-paced Irish drummer.

Their first album includes original tunes, updated versions of more recent Irish music (Enya's "Orinoco Flow") and their renditions of such Irish chestnuts as "Danny Boy."
